The Christopher A. Pugh II Center (CPC) hosted its annual signature fundraising event, Bowties & Blazers, on Saturday, June 14, at The Guest House at Graceland, and the evening was nothing short of inspiring. Over 400 guests gathered in support of CPC’s mission to empower youth and adult males through workforce development, career preparation, and mentorship, particularly for those impacted by poverty, incarceration, and systemic barriers.
The evening was a powerful celebration of transformation and possibility. Guests were welcomed into the venue by the elegant sounds of violinist Journey, setting the tone for a night of sophistication and soul. The talented comedian Cleatis Allen kept spirits high as the evening’s MC, while Kimberly Newsom and Odie Tolbert brought their energy and charisma as co-hosts of the much-anticipated fashion show, a glamorous showcase that saw members of the Divine Nine (D9) organizations command the runway with confidence, culture, and style. Later in the night, Grammy-nominated artist Stefanie Bolton serenaded guests at the after-party, followed by DJ Darrell Jackson, who kept the celebration alive well into the evening.
A particularly moving moment came when one of CPC’s HVAC training program participants, Christian Green, who was once gripped by stage fright, stood proudly beside CPC Board Chair Patrick Cole to deliver the evening’s welcome speech. For many, it was a profound reminder of the heart of CPC’s work: creating spaces where individuals are empowered to find their voice, their value, and their future.
This year’s Bowties & Blazers was made possible thanks to the generous support of community partners and sponsors including The Sims Financial Group, Inc., My Faith, Inc., Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Memphis Allies, Brown Missionary Baptist Church, Shelby County Government, YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South, Agape Child & Family Services, A Square Meal, Dillard’s, Cardi Fitness, K Newsom Style Concierge, Kreative Concepts, Juliet Pocket Squares, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Their continued partnership reflects a shared vision of transformation and investment in brighter futures.
Bowties & Blazers 2025 was more than an evening of fashion and fun, it was a reflection of what’s possible when belief, opportunity, and community come together.
