Beyond the Classroom: A Quarter of Exposure and Enrichment

Growth doesn't only happen in a classroom; sometimes it happens on a studio set, at a waterfall, or in the middle of a city festival. This quarter, CPC made sure participants had all three.

In July, participants in CPC's Film & Production Program toured WKNO-TV Studios, getting a behind-the-scenes look at professional television production. The visit gave participants real-world insight into the media and entertainment industry, while reinforcing how creativity, technology, and collaboration come together to tell impactful stories, and why storytelling itself is a tool for advocacy and community impact.

In August, the Center hosted a one-day mentor-mentee hangout at Geyser Falls in Choctaw, Mississippi. Between swimming, tubing, and shared meals, mentors and participants built relationships outside the structure of a classroom, proving that some of the most meaningful mentorship conversations happen in the most relaxed moments.

Then in September, the CPC team took its mission directly to the city, setting up at Taste of Memphis at Tiger Lane. It was a chance for participants to engage with the broader Memphis community, and for more Memphians to discover the work happening at CPC.

Three very different settings, one consistent thread: exposure changes what young men believe is possible for themselves. This quarter, CPC made sure that exposure kept happening, again and again.
